The definitive RFID research tool
If you are serious about RFID security research, the Proxmark3 RDV4 is the only real option. I have tested hundreds of access control systems with this device and it handles everything from basic EM4100 cards to complex MIFARE DESFire. The standalone mode is perfect for quick field assessments. Bluetooth module is a great addition for remote operation.
Excellent review! The RDV4 really is the gold standard for RFID research. Let us know if you need any antenna upgrades.
Powerful but command-line heavy
The Proxmark3 is incredibly capable, but be prepared for a lot of command-line work. The learning curve is real — spent a solid week reading the wiki before I felt confident using it in the field. That said, once you know the commands it is lightning fast. Cloned an HID iCLASS card in under a minute during my last assessment. Battery life is decent, around 3-4 hours of active use.
Worth the premium over cheap clones
I originally bought a cheap Proxmark3 Easy clone and regretted it immediately — range was terrible, firmware was buggy. The RDV4 is in a completely different league. The long-range antennas actually work, the aluminum case is professional looking, and the Iceman firmware support is top notch. Reads cards from 5+ cm away which makes covert reads practical.
