Incredible frequency range for the price

2026-01-05

For an SDR that covers 1 MHz to 6 GHz with TX capability, the HackRF One is unmatched at this price point. I use it daily for RF research — everything from analyzing car key fobs to cellular band monitoring. GNU Radio Companion integration is seamless. The 20 MHz bandwidth is more than adequate for most research tasks.

Paired with PortaPack - unstoppable combo

2025-11-22

Bought the HackRF One and immediately paired it with a PortaPack H2. Running Mayhem firmware, this thing is a portable RF powerhouse. Used it for a wireless security audit last week and was able to identify unauthorized transmitters in the client facility. The open-source nature means the community keeps improving it.

Powerful but steep learning curve

2026-02-08

The hardware is excellent — well built, solid antenna connector, reliable USB connection. My only knock is that GNU Radio has a steep learning curve if you are coming from the networking side of security rather than RF. Took me about two weeks to get comfortable, but now I would not trade it. 8-bit ADC is the only real hardware limitation.
